An estimated 8000 people made their way to the Bloomfield Road open space and to Devonshire Tunnel. Most things were oversubscribed, and the ice cream ran out on what was one of the few sunny-though-crisp days in several weeks. Despite the queues, but helped by the weather, the activities and the music, people were cheerful, patient. The company was good, and the handover ceremony from one generation to the next, moving.
